Around 6 months things start to get interesting with baby. There is a lot of development happening between 6 and 12 months. From sitting up to crawling and standing to walking. Baby is learning fast. Not to mention, first teeth, first words, and separation anxiety. Babies have their own little world going on around them and you are smack dab in the middle trying to figure it all out. That’s the reason I’ve created these posts. To lessen the burden of trying to figure out what you need, when you already have so much else going on.
As always, you will continue to buy the monthly necessities:
Diapers and Wipes
Formula (If using)
Breastmilk Storage (If using)
Lanolin (If using)
At this point purchasing baby food (or making your own) becomes a monthly necessity also.
Around 6 months you will want to purchase these necessities:
Clothes in 6-9 month size: 3+ onesies, 5 sleepers, 2-4 outfits, 5 socks
A crib if you haven’t purchased one yet.
Feeding Supplies (If you haven’t already) Check out this post on starting solids.
Some babies are getting teeth at this stage. Check out this post on teething. Baby teethers and toys are something I would consider necessary.
Also, for when those little teeth decide to pop through, grab a baby toothbrush!
Nice to have, but not necessary:
Highchair or sit up seat ( A highchair will probably become a necessity later on as baby gets older and is able to eat on their own. Unless you are okay with holding baby on your lap to eat.)
A saucer or some kind of bouncy seat
Around 7 months you will want to purchase these necessities:
Baby may be getting mobile so it’s probably about time to baby proof.
Plug covers, baby gates, cabinet latches, and drawer latches are all a necessity!
Around 9 months you will want to purchase these necessities:
Clothing in 9-12 months size: 3+ onesies, 5 Sleepers, 2-4 outfits, 5 socks
You may need to purchase a larger car seat. Some babies will outgrow the first one before a year.
Not necessary, but nice to have:
You may want to purchase some new toys that are a little more interactive.
Around 12 months you will want to purchase these necessities:
Clothing starts to go a little different at this point. Such as 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, then into toddler sizes like 2t, 3t, 4t.
You will probably want to purchase clothing in 12 month size: 5 outfits, 3 pajamas, and 5 socks.
If baby has started walking, which could’ve very well happened a few months prior, it’s important to get items baby proofed. Things like gates at the top and bottom of stairs, corner guards, door stops, plug covers, etc. are really important.
Here’s a checklist (Just click the link to download the PDF)
Is there anything else you would consider a necessity for baby at this age? If so, let me know in the comments.
