Do you ever find yourself doing mindless tasks? Walking around the house looking for something to do, but not really? Spending too much time on your phone looking at Pinterest or Facebook? Mindlessly watching television when you know you should be doing something else? I know, I know, I’ve been there! I hated myself for it too! I spent hours of my day devoting time to things that were NOT important. I could’ve spent that time with my family, written an important blog post, or cleaned the bathroom. Ugh!
So I made a plan to get better. I thought that I needed another checklist. But how would I do that? I already have a million checklists. My dailies, weeklies, and monthlies, my extras… you get it. AND here’s the thing about that, sometimes I could get so consumed in the idea that I needed to get something done that, not only was I doing mindless tasks, but my to do lists were starting to take away time from other important areas of my life as well!! Agh, what to do? What to do?
I ultimatley decided that restructuring my routine would be the best idea. This is how I did it:
I made a list of all the things I would like to accomplish everyday along with the approximate time it would take to complete or the amount of time I would like to spend on the task. Things like spending more time with my kids, regular cleaning, work related stuff, errands, ect. I made a list of the things I would like for my kids to accomplish everyday. Chores, some sort of activity NOT involving electronics, independent time, ect.
I then, prioritized my list. 1 being the highest priority. I wrote these things down along with some other normal daily routine stuff, such as, getting myself and my youngest ready in the morning, and this became our families new routine. It has helped me manage my time much more efficiently.
I haven’t solidified it yet, because I want to take my time to reflect on things we could get better with or maybe even do without.
